  7.     "I must admit that I do not deserve to be considered a
  8. [wine] connoisseur," writes Richard Nixon in Forbes FYI, a new
  9. supplement to the business magazine. The former President's
  10. article provides evidence that his modesty is well placed. The
  11. Sage of Saddle River proffers advice that wine lovers will
  12. recognize as misleading or downright wrong. Never chill a red
  13. wine, he decrees. In fact, most Beaujolais and some other fruity
  14. reds benefit from cool temperatures. Nixon says California's
  15. consistent climate renders vintage years virtually irrelevant as
  16. a guide to quality, a claim that would be disputed by the Napa
  17. and Sonoma vintners who suffered through icy rains last fall.
  18. Nixon heralds the 1961 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild as the
  19. century's greatest Bordeaux; he serves it when regaling
  20. journalists in his home. Wine critic Robert Parker calls the
  21. 1961 "unyielding, too acidic, disturbingly austere and
  22. surprisingly ungenerous." Parker's pick: the 1949 Lafleur
  23. Pomerol.
